Training Workshops
To date there has been little available postgraduate training on how to deal effectively with the pharmaceutical industry. Arbor Vitae run workshops to train appropriate delegates about the governance challenges of working with Industry. Our most popular workshop is a four-hour format which is geared towards NHS Consultants, late-in-training Specialist Registrars and senior pharmacists, and academic equivalents.
The key learning objectives are as follows:
- To develop delegate understanding of the structure and functioning of the pharmaceutical industry.
- To allow delegates to understand the marketing strategies and influence networks used by the industry to communicate product offerings to healthcare professionals.
- To enable delegates to identify potential conflicts of interest, and how best to manage them in future collaborations.
- For delegates to share experiences and learning with their peer group, and develop a model for best practice in this area.
- For delegates to integrate this training as part of their job plans and personal development.
- For delegates to understand how best to approach companies should they require funding for research, service development or travel and educational grant.
If you think it would be beneficial to your organisation for us to run a tailored workshop at your Trust or University, or as part of your professional associations' event, please do not hesitate to contact us for a preliminary discussion.

Whilst the importance of continuing professional development for healthcare professionals is self evident, implementing their learning can be supported by clear organisational policies and procedures. Arbor Vitae can facilitate the development or refinement of your Trust, University or professional association policies and procedures for working with Industry.
We can work with your organisation to:
- Develop strategic policies in line with aspirations and values of your organisation, within existing regulatory frameworks
- Work with senior management to develop macro-procedures/ guidelines for collaborating with Industry
- Identify existing or potential organisational capabilities which may be of value to the pharmaceutical industry
- Ensure that staff or members can easily access policies and procedures
- Develop processes to allow for ongoing audit of adherence to agreed policies
